Reiki is now recognised and used in the NHS as a form of complementary therapy.
The word 'Reiki' (pronounced Ray-Key) is Japanese for Universal Life Energy. It is an ancient method of natural healing which is activated by intention, and was rediscovered and developed in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui (1865-1926).
Reiki continues to be 'taught' by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.
What are some of the known benefits of Reiki?
- Supports the body with its natural healing process
- Lowers blood pressure
- Manages feelings of stress
- Deep relaxation
- Reduces feelings of anxiety
What to expect during a Reiki session?
Sessions usually last for one hour. Ten minutes either side gives time for consultation. Remaining fully clothed in a comfortable position, the Reiki practitioner will place their hands in various positions on or over the body.
The Reiki practitioner acts as a channel for the energy and a client may experience different sensations such as tingling, coolness or heat. However, some clients do not have any sensations but this does not mean Reiki is not working.
Reiki will flow to areas that it's most required to.
